The Silent Traveller I pairs a traveller's suit set with the little-known but enchantingly beautiful memoir, The Silent Traveller in London, written by Chiang Yee in 1938. The sets are soft uniforms, intended for sleep, play, working or exploring in, mental or physical travel.
This edition is made from buttery linen that is hand-brushed to finish, resulting in a raised nap that gives a special thickness, softness, and warmth to the cloth. Each set is made-to-order, custom to the wearer's size. I work with two patterns - one for men and one for women, with subtle differences in the cut and details. Made in my London studio within ten days of ordering, complete with a dust bag and museum-style archival box. International shipping is included.
All sets come with a front shirt pocket and two hidden side shirt pockets; trousers with two hidden side pockets and a single back pocket, a drawstring waistband with a button-fly for men. All sets are finished with horn buttons and feature traditional sewing techniques. Made to last.
I work with the renowned Hand & Lock to offer monogramming services. Several font options are available. See image below as an example.
The original hardback memoir with dust jacket is available (collector's item, very limited quantity). Written whilst Mr. Yee lived in Hampstead, North London, his spirited account on the nuances of daily life in London is enchanting. Published by Country Life Books (London).
As each set is customized and made-to-order, all sales are final.
